Coupling WNC: Token Rewards Come to Western North Carolina

By The Coupling Team • 2026-02-12

We are thrilled to introduce Coupling WNC — a localized token rewards network built specifically for the merchants and communities of Western North Carolina.

Why WNC?

Western North Carolina is home to one of the most vibrant independent business communities in the Southeast. From the craft breweries on South Slope to the boutiques on Haywood Road, from the galleries in the River Arts District to the farm-to-table restaurants downtown — WNC merchants are the backbone of our mountain communities.

But traditional loyalty programs keep value trapped inside single businesses. A coffee shop's rewards only work at that coffee shop. A bookstore's points only work at that bookstore.

Coupling WNC changes that.

How It Works

With Coupling, WNC merchants can:

  • Issue their own branded tokens — Create reward points that represent your brand
  • Accept tokens from partner merchants — A coffee shop on Haywood Road can accept tokens from a brewery on South Slope
  • Build neighborhood networks — Merchants in West Asheville, Downtown, River Arts District, and beyond can form interconnected reward ecosystems

When customers earn tokens at one business and spend them at another, value stays local. The community gets stronger.

Part of a Bigger Network

Coupling WNC is part of the larger Coupling network — an open-source, federated platform for community token economies. Built on Bitcoin and Nostr, every Coupling node is connected to a global network while remaining locally governed.

This means WNC merchants benefit from a battle-tested platform while maintaining full control over their local token economy.
